Temporary Closure of Oak Quarry

Dear Councillor,

From Monday 18th March to Friday 5th April, Oak Quarry Household Recycling Centre, near Coleford, will be temporarily closed to facilitate some important upgrades to the site.  This follows on from a similar upgrade that we completed at Pyke Quarry HRC and Hempsted HRC last year.

We are changing the method used to compact some types of waste and recycling materials.  A mobile materials handler will replace the existing equipment which is old, frequently breaks down and is expensive to maintain. The new method will also give more operational flexibility.  We are also investing in new waste collection containers, improved recycling signage and opening a Reuse Shop.

We will be communicating with all service stakeholders on this closure to help minimise any disruption to residents in the Forest of Dean District.

During this closure residents will be redirected to their closest alternative centre, these being:

  • Hempsted HRC, Gloucester (Closed on Thursdays)
  • Wingmoor Farm HRC in Stoke Orchard (Closed on Wednesdays)

The information on this closure will be posted online in the next couple of days at www.recycleforgloucestershire.com

Oak Quarry HRC will re-open on Saturday 6th April.
